  • Even small dog breeds can run rings around the big ones with regard to temperament, ability to learn and guard dog capabilities. The experts at Maxi Zoo know that how far off the ground the dog is says nothing about his character and abilities. Future owners should be aware that small dogs are real dogs that have their own individual needs.....How do you find the right dog? Some make choices based on celebrities – “One like Paris Hilton”. Others follow fashion – “It has to be a pug”. Or there could be a personal reason for choice – “I live in an apartment so I want a little dog”. Or – “The dog shouldn’t be too big so I can control him in difficult situations”. Whatever your reason, think well in advance about what sort of characteristics your new family member should have. Just because they are small dogs doesn’t automatically mean that they need less space or care. Here are nine small dog breeds and important facts you should know about them.

  • They called him the Gentle Giant.....At 8 feet, 11.1 inches tall, Robert Wadlow was the tallest man to ever walk the Earth, at least in recorded history. Even if he was of normal stature, the people of Alton, where he grew up, would have remembered him as gentle.....He was a good human being — kind,” said Dan Brannan, an Alton journalist who wrote a book about Wadlow in 2003. “He just really handled everything with class.”.....Being tall wasn’t very easy, he pointed out, and it was hard to escape the stares and questions. Robert was born on Feb. 22, 1918. He died young, at age 22.....The people who remember him are dying off as well — Brannan interviewed dozens for his book, and many have since passed away. But the stories about him remain, as well as a life-size statue of him in Upper Alton, where he lived and went to school. The community embraced him.

  • Pies can be traced back to 6000 BC.....Pies can be loosely traced back to ancient Egyptians during the Neolithic Period or New Stone Age. The bakers incorporated nuts, honey and fruits in the bread dough. There’s a town called Pie Town in New Mexico, USA.....Nope, it’s not the name of a cute bakery, and no, it’s not imaginary! Pie Town is a real place located along the U.S Highway 60 in Catron County. Their specialty? Pies, of course. Approximately 186 million pies are sold in grocery stores alone in one year....Oh, did I mention, only in America? To put to scale, the number of pies sold can circle the globe and beyond. Pieing or pie attack....You’ve probably seen this a lot in cartoons. Pieing or pie attack is an act of throwing a pie at a person. A subtler way of pieing someone now can be through the game Pie Face. A word of caution, it gets messy.

  • Punk rock is a style of rock music. Many musicians and punk rock music listeners ("punk rockers") want to protest or rebel against the norms or rules of society. Punks say that people should "Do It Yourself", which means that people should try to accomplish their goals using the materials in their own communities. Many punk bands make their own music recordings and distribute them without using a major record company. The Sex Pistols.....Many punks have strong political beliefs. Punk rock musicians are often mad at the government, the police, and laws. Many punk rock songs protest injustice, lies, and unfairness in countries. Almost all punks are leftists, who believe that a country should share the products and food that it produces with all the people in the country. Some punks are vegetarian or vegans, because they believe that animals should not be killed for food. Some punks are anarchists. Very few punks are conservative, libertarian, or Republican.

  • The word "carpet" itself comes from the Latin word "carpere" which means "to pluck". This can be supported by the fact that the earliest forms of carpet were made from unraveled or "plucked" fabrics.....While some carpets are made from recycled plastic, others are created with knotted wool. This wool can sometimes be home to beetle grubs, that have chemicals in their stomachs that convert wool in sugars, causing the insect to eat through carpets and rugs like delicious candy (yum!).....Several pounds of soil and skin flakes can collect in and under your carpets each year. You can easily remove this with regular vacuuming and professional cleaning. This unique ability of carpet is actually great because it keeps allergens out of the breathing zone.....Bacteria can live longer than four weeks in carpets (and other flooring surfaces), and can transfer those germs to any food as soon as it touches - making the "five second rule" a complete myth (much to my dismay)!

  •  THERE WERE SEVEN GIRLS IN THE FIRST SEASON: BLAIR, TOOTIE, NATALIE, AND FOUR OTHERS.....Things were rather crowded at Eastland School during those first 13 episodes, with Felice Schachter, Julie Anne Haddock, Julie Piekarski, and Molly Ringwald (yes, that one) in the mix with the others. A couple of school administrators were regular characters as well. Predictably, it soon became apparent that there wasn’t enough for all of those characters to do, and the show’s ratings were lousy. For the second season, producers stripped it down to the elements that were working best, dumped everyone else, and brought in Nancy McKeon as tomboy, blue-collar Jo.
